ONE-DAY SCHOOL SONG CONTEST
Created and led by Alex Larke, the United Kingdom’s Eurovision Song Contest representative in 2015, NIL POINTS! brings genuine Eurovision and music-industry experience into a one-day school song contest. Every team starts with no song and nil points. Every team finishes with an original entry and points on the board.

THE NIL POINTS! LOOP
Six creative teams take a blank-page brief through songwriting, production, recording and presentation before a live Grand Final.
Create the hook, structure, sound and identity.
Listen critically to what is actually there.
Ask the professional question: what makes this entry stronger?
Act on feedback before the deadline.
DAY AT A GLANCE
Challenge, team roles, deadline and judging criteria.
Concept, title, lyric or melodic hook and identity.
Rhythm, harmony, bass, structure and sonic identity.
Up to three clear producer improvements.
Essential parts and artist presentation.
A 60–75 second original contest entry by the deadline.
Present, listen and take part in the Student Vote.
Student Vote + Professional Jury, followed by the School Champion reveal and Studio Finish award.
THE CHALLENGE
ROLES
Participation is built around five clear creative roles, giving different strengths a meaningful job inside the team.

GRAND FINAL

The Student Vote and Professional Jury each award 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 points. Under the standard six-entry system, the combined minimum is 4 points so no team finishes on zero.
The Professional Jury considers SONG, PRODUCTION, PERFORMANCE and ORIGINALITY.
EDUCATIONAL VALUE
NIL POINTS! supports practical composing, performing, listening and appraising, music technology and creative decision-making.
It can reinforce KS3 and GCSE-related skills while remaining enrichment and curriculum-support provision rather than formal assessed coursework.
PRACTICAL DELIVERY
Where practical, NIL POINTS! works with the school’s existing supported music-production setup. We confirm the technical requirements in advance so the day is ready to run.
The complete programme, resources, specialist recording equipment and core show assets, age-appropriate adaptation, facilitation, Grand Final, scoring system, winning Studio Finish and concise outcome documentation.
A suitable room, power, display and audio, pupil workstations and headphones where required, staff supervision, ideally three staff jurors plus relevant pupil support and permissions.
STANDARD SCHOOL-DAY FEE
Standard delivery covers up to 30 active pupils. Travel and any additional requirements are quoted separately where applicable.
ENQUIRE ABOUT A DATEWINNER OUTCOME
The winning entry becomes the school’s NIL POINTS! School Champion and receives The Studio Finish: professional editing, mixing and mastering after the event. The finished WAV and MP3 are then returned to the school.
